Specimen Selection - A mature bird
without pin feathers and in prime condition should be selected for a
mount.
- Do not field dress the bird
- Stuff the mouth with cotton or
tissue paper to prevent body fluids from soiling feathers.
- Wrap the bird in newspaper or nylon
stocking and keep it cool (refrigerate). Deliver to taxidermist as soon as
possible.
- Birds can also be kept frozen until
they are delivered to the taxidermist.
- Frost-free freezers dehydrate
birds. Do not keep birds in frost-free freezers for extended (+60 days) periods of time.
Contact the taxidermist if you have any
questions regarding handling of specimens.
