Taxidermy Hawaii Specializes in Exotic Upland Game Bird Mounts

Taxidermy Hawaii was founded in 1969. It services local, national, and international clientele. Taxidermy Hawaii designed exhibits for numerous state of Hawaii venues including:

  • A permanent display of Hawaii’s exotic upland game birds at the Hunter Education Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.
  • An exhibit at Keahole International Airport, Keahole, Hawaii and at Hilo International Airport, Hilo, Hawaii through the State Parks Division’s Wailoa Center.

Founder Roku Kanekuni is a retired public school administrator. He previously taught biology for 24 years in Hawaii public schools. Roku incorporated taxidermy as part of the Ecology of Hawaii’s Fish and Wildlife curriculum at Honokaa High School—the only course of its kind within the State of Hawaii Department of Education—and developed a life science museum at the school with participating students.

Roku received the State of Hawaii's Sustained Superior Performance Award, in 1977.

Roku was the featured taxidermist with wildlife artists at State Parks Division’s Wailoa Center in Hilo, Hawaii (1992, 1994, 1996, 1999).  He was honored by the National Wild Turkey Federation with Sportsman Award for Wildlife Habitat Contributions and Certificate of Appreciation for Wildlife Volunteers.
